A Brief of Activities

2

Since we last wrote, the National Patients' Committee has elected Dr. John Ruhräh, of Baltimore, President, to succeed Arthur Smith, resigned; Tudor Owen, of New York City, Vice-President, to succeed Lewis Hanchett, of San Francisco; Christine Piper, of Irving, Kansas, Secretary, to succeed Elizabeth Angell, of Manville, R. I.; and T. E. (Bud) Cohalan, of New York City, Treasurer, to succeed John Smith, of Philadelphia.

3

As this issue goes to press, Dr. Ruhräh, elected before his arrival, has just come, and Tudor Owen has just returned to his home.

4

The Publicity Group, D. J. Macdonnell, of Ottawa, Canada, Chairman, has met and worked out its policy for the publication of the Polio Chronicle. It was decided that the Chronicle should be published monthly, and beginning with the August issue, should be in the mails regularly by the tenth of each month. This plan will facilitate the work of the National Patients' Committee in making known the activities of Warm Springs and carrying on the Polio Crusade.

5

The Polio Crusaders Group, with which has been combined the Finance Group, is carrying on three separate but concurrent promotion programs. These plans call for memberships from residents of Warm Springs, memberships obtained through residents, and memberships obtained by our Alumni.

6

Augustus (Gus) Gennerich is our star Polio Crusader. A few days ago he sent in thirty-nine memberships. Mrs. Lillian K. Donovan, Stephen Crane, of Pittsburg, and Don Muni, of Ridgwood, N. J. have carried on this good work.

7

Within the last week Peggy Clark, of New York, has taken over the work of Stephen Crane, who has returned to his home. Peggy has charge of the campaign to secure Polio Crusader memberships through the efforts of Polio Crusaders who are in residence at the Foundation.

8

Mr. James B. Tomlinson, of the Rehabilitation Group, is expanding the work of the Group, and has recently written personal letters to Warm Springs Alumni who have rehabilitated themselves.

9

We may well be proud of the many Alumni who have returned to active life and carved out their own success. Correspondence from these folks should be of great value to those who have the fight back to normal life still before them.

10

Geoffrey Merriss is glad to announce that as an indirect result of efforts of his Architectural and Mechanical Hints Group, the Woodstock Electric Typewriter Company, 6 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, is presenting the Committee with a Woodstock Electric typewriter. This generous and friendly gesture deserves the thanks of the whole Committee.

11

Lowell Martin, of Lafayette, Indiana, who practices law at home, will conduct parliamentary drill at Committee meetings -- an inspiration from the Demo Convention.

12

In the next issue -- news of the first annual meeting of the National Patients' Committee. We celebrate the Committee's first birthday with an afternoon jamboree and then a banquet, with dancing afterward.

13

Music will be furnished by our own Sournote Syncopators under Stephen (Brodie) Helburn, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, our new Entertainment Chairman.
