On August 21st, a caravan of four cars, including eight patients (two adolescents and six children, 14 staff members and 1 Volunteer (Mrs. Laurie) embarked on a trip to the Zoo.

2

Miss Wood, Physical Therapist, and the physical medicine department assumed responsibility for the trip, providing the doctor (Dr. Coyne), the nurse, (Miss Coyne), personnel and transportation.

3

Fair weather (rare for Cleveland) was "the good sign" for the day's event. Everything went smoothly; everyone had a good time. In two hours we saw most of the animals in outside habitats.

4

Interesting observations include; Donnie's questions about the flamingos, "Why do they stand on one foot?"; Sharon's fear of the hippopotami (who wouldn't be); Sandy's friendly "Hi" to all Zoo Personnel; Lorraine's cry to the big elephant standing behind the little elephant near the pool, "Don't push him in!"; Mrs. Thompson's graphic imitation of the Flamino's stance; Mrs. Francis' interpretations of the elephant's manner of drinking, "Looking he's swallowing his trunk."

5

Before leaving to return to City Hospital, Lorraine sang to the seals, "The Seal Song" which she had learned in school. The group, with Miss Coyne leading, sang "Old Mac Donald Had A Farm" -- of seals.

6

It was difficult to evaluate who enjoyed the trip most -- patients or staff. Remembrance from the day's event: Sally's Cleveland Zoo souvenir banner and Miss Wood's moving pictures.
